Megan Pritchett Presley

Megan is from Moultrie, Georgia and attended college at the University of Georgia (UGA), where she was very active in the College of Family and Consumer Sciences. She graduated in May 2007 and started teaching Family and Consumer Sciences at Bainbridge High School in August 2007. She received her Masters of Education degree in August 2009 from UGA. While teaching, Megan co-advised FCCLA and had one national STAR Events gold medal winner and a State Youth Leadership Board member. Megan was married December 18, 2010 to Zach Presley, a Financial Institutions Specialist with the FDIC. In July 2011, the couple moved to Savannah, Georgia where Megan teaches Nutrition and Food Science and Interior Design pathways and advises FCCLA at South Effingham High School.
Why did you join AAFCS?
My undergraduate adviser at UGA, Connie Rash, encouraged me to join. I was an active member of our local Family and Consumer Sciences Organization and she knew that by being a member of AAFCS I would benefit from everything it had to offer.
How has membership in AAFCS been of value to you and your practice?
Through my membership I have been able to meet people that I would have never known who have been great resources to me in my teaching career. I have had opportunities to share my real life experiences with my students and co-workers. I have gained and improved my own leadership skills which I know will always be an asset to my life.

Please explain your answer.
I have found AAFCS to continuously be on top of things, whether it be the H1N1 virus or the latest economic crisis, it is working to reassure and teach its members how to deal with such. Professionals in AAFCS are committed to encouraging new professionals and working to be a great resource for them. As a student member and now professional member, I have always felt that AAFCS members wanted to best for me and work to help me be the best that I can be.
Why did you choose the field of family and consumer sciences?
Family and Consumer Sciences was never an option for me, it is a way of life. I joined FCCLA as a sixth-grade student and from that moment on every major decision in my life has been influenced by things I have learned from my Family and Consumer Sciences teachers and in my FACS classes. I knew when I was in high school that I wanted to pay it forward to other students what my teachers did for me and never wavered from my career plan of becoming a FACS teacher.

Named as a Bainbridge High Honor Graduate Influential Teacher - 2010
Named as Bainbridge High School Purango Feature Teacher – 2009
Served on AAFCS National Board of Directors – 2008-09
Served as AAFCS National Student Unit Chair – 2008-09
Earned Master’s of Education Degree in Workforce Education from UGA in August 2009
