Undergraduate Scholarships

The American Association of Family & Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) awards undergraduate scholarships to individuals who have exhibited the potential to make contributions to the family and consumer sciences profession.  Individuals who receive an undergraduate scholarship will receive financial support for the study of family and consumer sciences and a commemorative certificate.  The name of the recipient will be reported in AAFCS print and online communications. Recipients of the scholarship will receive support toward one year of AAFCS membership and participation in the AAFCS Annual Conference, where the scholarship award will be presented.

Jewell L. Taylor National Scholarship

The Taylor Scholarship was established through a generous bequest from Jewell L. Taylor, a dedicated family and consumer sciences professional for more than 50 years. She held positions as a county home demonstration agent and utility home economist, continuing her interest in AAFCS until her death. A $5,000 scholarship and up to $1,000 of support for one year of AAFCS membership and participation in the AAFCS Annual Conference will be awarded to no more than one (1) qualified undergraduate student pursuing a degree in family and consumer sciences.

2022 Jewell Taylor Scholarship Recipient: Emily Hogsett

  • Degree sought: Family and Consumer Sciences Education
  • Colorado State University
From Emily, "My passion for service and leadership began when I joined 4-H at eight years old. As I have grown older, I have realized how important both are to me as I am going into college in the fall of 2022. I hope to attend
Colorado State University to study Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) Education. During high school, I have been very involved in many activities, but the one that has made the largest impact on me is Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). I joined FCCLA as a freshman and loved it. I helped with various leadership and community service activities within my school chapter and competed in a competitive event.

By being a teacher, I will be able to make an impact on the future society. FCS lessons are very important and needed throughout life. FCCLA and FCS have had a huge impact on my life, and I hope to do the same for future students. I want to be in education until I retire - whether that is in the classroom or in an administrative position. I want to dedicate the rest of my life to FCS education and making a difference in the world through it."
