Learning Never Stops with Family & Consumer Sciences
A lifelong resident of Prince George's County, Maryland and an honors graduate of Morgan State College (now University) in Baltimore, Maryland, Hope Lee began her career in 1960 as an Inventory Management Specialist for the Department of Defense in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After retiring with 32 years of civil service, she earned her master’s in curriculum and instruction from Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College), Westminster, Maryland in 1999, and from 1996 to 2008 enjoyed a second career as a family and consumer sciences instructor at Oxon Hill High
School in Prince George’s County.
Why did you join AAFCS?
I joined AAFCS to enhance my professionalism and to network with others in the profession.
How has membership in AAFCS been of value to you and your practice?
After over a 35 year hiatus, I was able to return to the classroom with support and encouragement from the many outstanding and dedicated educators and professionals in this organization.

The organization is continuously exposing its members to new ideas and the latest in developments associated with Family and Consumer Sciences.
Why did you choose the field of family and consumer sciences?
The family and consumer sciences subjects are all crucial to living a productive life.

Maryland FACS Teacher of the Year 2006
One of AAFCS top eight National Award Winners for Teacher of the Year 2007
Chapter Advisor for only Chapter of FCCLA in Maryland 2002 - 2008
Member of writing team for Fashion I, II, III and IV curriculum for Prince George’s County, MD 2006- 2008
MAFCS member 1998 to present
Published a children’s book titled “What Colors Did You Eat Today?” 2012 (Softcover, ISBN 9781412076746)
