Board of Directors The AAFCS Board of Directors acts as the legal representative of the Association, sets association policy, and provides leadership for and manages the affairs and funds of the Association. Affiliate Leadership AAFCS affiliates are the groundwork of the Association. Active leadership in your affiliate will ensure AAFCS remains a leader in the FCS field. Affiliates may have single year or multi-year terms, depending upon the office and affiliate. Visit the affiliate directory to contact your affiliate leader today and find out what the needs are in your state. Most affiliate offices begin June 1; contact your affiliate to verify procedures.
Committee Service Committees are vital to the Association; in cooperation with staff and the BOD, committees carry out specific functions as outlined in the AAFCS Policies manual. Committee members participate in conference calls, and meet at Annual Conference; attendance is encouraged at the Annual Conference immediately prior to beginning a term and at the Annual Conference during tenure on a committee.

Student Unit The National Student Unit officer team promotes the professional development of members who are students of family and consumer sciences or related fields through regular communications on association programs geared to students, and planning Annual Conference activities and the annual Student Unit service project. Officer terms are one year in length. Monthly conference calls are typical. Officers shall attend and participate in the Annual Conference & Expo during the year of election and the year their office ends. Officer applications are due Dec. 31.
Advocacy Work Our members are the FCS profession’s best advocates! Learn how to reach your administrators and view other opportunities like the “Taking It to the Streets” Campaign. Various. Journal Author/Reviewer Write an article for the JFCS or the FCSRJ or apply to review articles. Visit the journal pages in the Resources section of the website. Please check the journal pages in the Resources section of the website.
Award, Grant, Fellowship, Scholarship Juror Judge grant, fellowship, and scholarship applications and award nominations to help choose those who will be honored for their accomplishments. Judging usually takes place in February and March. Contact awards@aafcs.org for more information or to sign up. Jurors are chosen by January of each year, but new volunteers are always welcome.
Educational Session Reviewer Review educational session proposals for the AAFCS Annual Conference. Reviews usually take place for four weeks in October and November.
